A THEATRE OF RECOLLECTIONS

360 – a theatre of recollections is a prodigal son story; it is also the story of a man looking back at his life, a life where as a young man he left his embarrassingly childlike family to seek fame and fortune. 25 years later he gets a phone call that starts a journey back. The way home triggers memories of walking away from them, and his mind starts losing any sense of present time.

The memories from long ago and the people he meets on his way home become blurred and he experiences a leveling contemporaneity of everything he has experienced and just as a circle has no beginning or end, suddenly the past, the present, and the future seem to have equal significance and the things he normally values in life begin to be questioned. Arriving home he's finally forced to face himself, and through tragedy discovers his family’s love. Is it only through suffering that people truly change?

The show is performed on a raised circular stage with the audience seated in the middle of the circle on swivel seats.

360 was commissioned by the New Zealand International Arts Festival and the Auckland Festival.

  • "Theatre’s often at its best when it does something no other artform can do – transforming the world you live in, live before your eyes. That’s what 360 does."
